Yakut knives

This are the yakuts i forge in my workshop. 100% custom made in italy

mistery wood and 52100 steel

Few years ago a buddy introduced me to this style of blade, the yakut knife traditional of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) located in the remote Siberia

Particular and unique

The main characteristic of this blade is the one sided fuller, and changes side depending on the user dominant hand.

The first ones i made were a bit crude and not following the idea of the original ones, but as i refined the techniques and actualy got better at forging i became able to pretty much make a 100% identical blade to the one produced by the Yakut/Sakha smiths.

black locust burl and patternwelded steel i make myself

The origins

The story passed down and that reached me is that of bone knives, large bones split lengthwise and used to process meats and wood, later on the steel production evolved and they had the opportunity to make steel knives but the raw material was still scarce so by fullering the blade you can use less steel but also obtain the traditional bone knife shape

Materials

Well the guys up in that region would use mostly reclaimed steel. So i believe the true spirit lays in recovering old high-carbon tools and giving them a new life as a knife that will keep you company for generations.

forged, heat treated and polished blade ready for the handle

Does this shape inspire you?

To keep up with the modern time where not all can forge i also provide ready to handle blades.

Blades that are heat treated with a kiln with accurate steps to refine the grain and obtain the best heat treatment possible

steel options: 80crv2-52100-O2-1080...

by request i can provide reclaimed steel blades or

the blade will be polished and sharpened

left and right handed rough ground blades

Feel free to ask me any question
